Interior Design Trends for 2021

Spring is turning into summer and love is in full swing. This is the time to reevaluate how you can make your bedroom a sanctuary in your home.

Jeanne Campana, an interior decorator from Jeanne Campana Design, Long Island, believes bedrooms should be a sanctuary, a place to recharge and relax.

Campana states that choosing a soft color palette and soothing textures can help create a sense calm. Throw pillows, comfortable knits in neutral tones with rich wood accents, faux-fur throws, and comfy knits in soft colors are great options. A statement upholstered bed with an area rug under anchors the space and creates a sense of warmth.

FABRIC AND COLOR
The power of colors and fabrics can transform any space. They should encourage rest and relaxation, as well as energizing when you`re feeling a bit tired and need to get out of bed.

Campana says that muted and lighter neutral colors with textural fabrics in subtle patterns can help to create a calm mood and relax. She advises clients to choose less contrast and tonality.

Campana suggests that you make your bed feel more comfortable by using soft linens, a luxurious Duvet, lots of pillows, and a faux fur blanket.

She explains that “Layering these soft elements with different textures throughout the space creates warmth and welcome feeling.”

Make the most of your space
A pair of upholstered armchairs, or a loveseat, can be used as sitting areas. They are a great way to maximize the space in your bedroom.

Campana says that the symmetry of the fabric makes it elegant and can be incorporated into many styles, while still feeling soft and comfortable. “Upholstery fabrics such as velvet and chenille add an extra layer of softness.”

She adds that a chair and a lamp with a small table in the corner of a space is a great way to create a relaxing spot.

FLOORS AND WINDOWS
In a bedroom, privacy and light control are essential. You`ll want to let in the best natural light during the day. You`ll want privacy in the evening by closing your window treatments.

Campana says that drapery panels with a liner are the best choice for light control and noise. These panels can also be used to cover other window treatments like blinds or shades, making them versatile.

Hardwood floors are prized for their rich colors and textures. To add comfort and coziness, you can layer hardwood floors with plush, high-pile rug to give your feet a comfortable landing in the morning.

She says that rugs can be used to add color, texture, and pattern to a room`s decor.

Let There Be Light
Campana says that cozy bedrooms require light. She explains that while natural light is the best option, there are many lighting options, including soft bedside lamps, candlelight and chandeliers, as well as overhead recessed lights with dimmers. This creates a calm, sophisticated and intimate atmosphere.
